PAST BILL
Fight the Hemp Products Ban in Ohio – SB86/HB160/HB198
PASSED March 02, 2026
This campaign is currently paused, but it may be started up again in the future. Our industry is under attack by the Ohio legislature. In addition to the hemp-banning SB 86 (summarized here), legislators are now also considering HB 160 which requires almost all hemp products to be sold exclusively at Ohio’s limited marijuana dispensaries. HB 160 reclassifies any products containing more than 0.5mg of total THC per serving, and more than 2mg of total THC per package as marijuana. Hemp products would be subject to the same manufacturing, distribution and sales limitations that apply to marijuana.
The good news is that HB 198 is an alternative bill also being considered that includes welcome regulations while preserving retail access to hemp products. Please urge legislators to support HB 198 which contains many Roundtable proposals and models what many other states have chosen—stronger enforcement, licensing for manufacturers and sellers, independent testing of hemp products, adequate labeling which prohibits child-enticing images, and age restrictions for consumable hemp products. Rather than banning hemp THC products, these reasonable restrictions ensure that adult consumers have direct access to the products they need, while keeping intoxicating products out of the hands of children.
