PAST BILL

Help stop enforcement efforts against federally legal hemp products in the District of Columbia

PASSED October 05, 2024

Following emergency legislation signed by DC’s Mayor, we’ve heard about the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA) seizing legal hemp products that were previously approved for sale. The enforcement efforts seem to be targeted against retail stores that are not licensed as medical dispensaries, even though hemp is federally legal and treated differently than marijuana.

Please use the below message, the mayor’s email address, and this list of DC City Councilmember contacts to urge the DC Mayor and local government to cease enforcement efforts.

Subject: Please cease enforcement efforts against federally legal hemp products

Body: As your constituent, I’m asking you to cease enforcement efforts against federally legal hemp products. The 2018 Farm Bill legalizes hemp and hemp products nationwide. DC’s recent seizures of federally legal hemp products are interfering with interstate commerce and violate federal law. Moreover, enforcing against federally legal hemp products negatively impacts small business and hurts economic opportunities for hemp farmers that sell federally legal products.

Please cease enforcement efforts against federally legal hemp products. I appreciate your consideration.

Even if you aren’t a DC resident or business, please share this page with your friends, colleagues, customers, and social media contacts in the state. Help us build our Hemp Supporter armies to assist us in these battles, which have a national impact.
