In Loving Memory of Joy Beckerman
The hemp industry has lost one of its greatest champions, and the U.S. Hemp Roundtable has lost a treasured leader, colleague, and friend.
For more than three decades, Joy Beckerman dedicated her life to fighting for hemp, breaking down barriers, and building an industry that so many once believed impossible. Her brilliance, unwavering determination, and extraordinary passion helped pave the way for generations of farmers, businesses, and advocates. It is difficult to overstate the significance of Joy’s contributions or the countless hours she devoted to advancing hemp legalization, educating lawmakers and industry leaders, and championing the responsible growth of an industry she believed in so deeply.
Joy’s leadership was instrumental to the U.S. Hemp Roundtable and the establishment of the U.S. Hemp Authority, where she helped lay the groundwork for the standards, education, and best practices that continue to guide our industry today. She was a pioneer in every sense of the word, working tirelessly for decades to overcome obstacles, challenge misconceptions, and open doors that had long been closed. Much of what our industry has accomplished, and many of the opportunities that exist today, can be traced back to the work of Joy and those who stood alongside her in the earliest days of this movement.
Beyond her remarkable accomplishments, Joy will be remembered for the person she was. She was generous with her knowledge, fearless in her convictions, and tireless in her willingness to show up, speak out, and fight for what she believed was right. She brought an unmatched depth of knowledge and passion to everything she did, and she never hesitated to share that knowledge with others. Her dedication to hemp was extraordinary, but so was her dedication to the people working to move the industry forward.
The hemp industry would not exist today without Joy Beckerman. Her influence is woven into its very foundation, and her legacy will endure in the progress she helped make possible and in the countless people she inspired along the way. We are profoundly grateful for the years she gave, the battles she fought, and the extraordinary example she set for all of us. As we mourn her loss, we are reminded of how much we owe to those who dedicated their lives to this cause long before there was an industry to speak of, and of our responsibility to continue the work they began.
Our deepest condolences go out to Joy’s family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her. Thank you, Joy, for everything you gave to this industry. Your passion, your leadership, and your unwavering belief in what was possible will never be forgotten.
Few people have had a more apt first name. There is a little less joy in the world with her passing, but her memory will serve as a blessing to all of us.
