61-32 Victory for Hemp: Congress Preserves Hemp Extension in Continuing Resolution
Today is a major win for the hemp industry.
In the early morning hours, Congress passed the Continuing Resolution with the hemp extension intact, preventing the federal hemp ban from taking effect on November 12 and keeping the door open for a sensible, long-term regulatory solution until December 11- giving us more time.
Over the past several weeks, hemp advocates from every corner of the country answered the call. Thousands of supporters contacted their Senators, shared their stories, engaged in grassroots advocacy, and made it clear that Congress should pursue regulation, not prohibition. Because of your efforts, lawmakers heard directly from the farmers, small businesses, manufacturers, retailers, consumers, veterans, and families who would have been impacted by a federal ban.
Today, those voices made a difference.
The passage of the CR preserves access to lawful hemp products, protects American jobs and businesses, and ensures Congress has additional time to finish the important work of developing a comprehensive federal regulatory framework.
This is a moment worth celebrating.
At a time when a federal ban appeared increasingly likely, our industry came together, spoke with one voice, and demonstrated the strength, resilience, and determination of the hemp community. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took action, shared our alerts, joined advocacy efforts, and stood up for the future of hemp.
While we celebrate this important victory, we know our work is not finished.
The extension gives us something invaluable: time. Time to work with lawmakers, regulators, stakeholders, and industry leaders to advance a responsible framework that protects consumers, prevents youth access to intoxicating products, supports farmers and businesses, and preserves access to lawful hemp products for millions of Americans.
We have cleared a major hurdle, but the real work of securing lasting federal regulation begins now.
For today, however, take pride in what we achieved together.
Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for raising your voice. And thank you for helping secure this important victory for the hemp industry.
Stay tuned. The next chapter of federal hemp policy is already beginning, and the U.S. Hemp Roundtable will continue leading the fight for smart, workable regulation that allows the hemp industry to thrive.
