California’s CBD Uncertainty Ends with Governor’s Signature on AB 45!
The era of CBD prohibition in California is over.
We are excited to announce that after more than three years of hard work, California’s AB 45 has been signed by Governor Gavin Newsom, and it is officially the law of the land, effective now. The bill explicitly legalizes the retail sale of hemp-derived extracts like CBD in the Golden State, while tackling several other issues relating to hemp products.
But that’s not the end of the story – and there is much work ahead of us. Soon, the California Department of Public Health will promulgate emergency regulations to implement the program. Subsequently, legislation will be introduced in the 2022 legislative session to address open questions such as the tax regime on smokable hemp products. The U.S. Hemp Roundtable will be fully engaged throughout this process.
Unfortunately, and as with too much of politics these days, there’s been a lot of misinformation spread about what the new law means. To address this, we have compiled a comprehensive summary of the bill here. Also, check out this excellent Politico article here.
Finally, we are pleased to share a USHempTV interview with the amazing bill sponsor, Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry:
We are grateful to all of our Hemp Supporters who helped make this victory possible in California. When we lift our voices, we win!
