Help Deliver Affordable Crop Insurance to U.S. Hemp Farmers

U.S. Hemp Roundtable

If you are a hemp farmer or processor, we need your help TODAY to ensure affordable hemp crop insurance coverage.

One of the U.S. Hemp Roundtable’s proudest legislative accomplishments was the inclusion of provisions within the 2018 U.S. Farm Bill of that permit the development of crop insurance for U.S. hemp farmers. We worked closely with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on the drafting of language that would provide the broadest and most affordable crop insurance options.

This week, the USDA announced the creation of a Whole-Farm Revenue Protection (WFRP) program for the crop year 2020. Such whole farm insurance will be beneficial to large growers who have a long history of farming hemp and who maintain extensive financial records over multiple insurable enterprises. Unfortunately, very few small and medium-sized hemp growers will qualify at the present time.

That’s why our sister organization, the U.S. Hemp Farming Alliance is announcing today a cooperative effort with AgriLogic, which was approved by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation in June to develop the federal multi-peril crop insurance program for hemp. A multi-peril program would help protect all hemp farmers – large and small – and should be in place in a significant number of states by next year’s growing season.

Please read this release for details on the USHFA’s collaboration with AgriLogic. To ensure the broadest and most affordable crop insurance coverage for hemp in 2020, we need your immediate help.
