Positive News from Texas

As we reported on Monday, Hemp Supporters across the nation were alarmed at comments made by the Tarrant County (Texas) District Attorney suggesting that arrests of CBD users in the Ft. Worth area could be imminent.

Our Roundtable General Counsel Jonathan Miller fired off his letter urging local prosecutors to stand down, and  appeared on TV calling for a legislative solution. By Tuesday, an excellent bill — House Bill 1325 —was introduced by Rep. Tracy King which would clarify that hemp-derived CBD could be sold at retail, as well as establish a state hemp growing program.

And then, another welcome development. Tarrant County District Attorney Sharen Wilson issued a statement saying her office prosecuted nearly 50,000 criminal cases in 2018 and that they do not expect to spend significant resources on cases involving CBD oil. Further, she encouraged CBD supporters to reach out to their legislators to share their views. Read more here.
