Senator Wyden Introduces Cannabinoid Safety and Regulation Act – Signal Support Now!

This afternoon, at a congressional briefing hosted by the US Hemp Roundtable, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) announced the introduction of the Cannabinoid Safety and Regulation Act.  This critical legislation, linked here, would protect hemp farmers, small businesses, and product consumers by establishing a new federal regulatory framework for the provision of hemp products.  The approach includes the following four pillars: restrict youth access, increase quality control standards, standardize labeling, and standardize packaging.

The bill boasts the endorsement of the consensus of the hemp industry, with more than two dozen non-profit organizations pledging their support.

Jonathan Miller, the Roundtable’s General Counsel stated:

“The hemp industry is united behind a simple, common-sense proposition:  Hemp products should be robustly regulated, not the subject of a misguided prohibition.  The Cannabinoid Safety and Regulation Act does just that: imposing strong health and safety standards for hemp products while ensuring that they are kept out of the hands of minors.  Along with dozens of other hemp organizations, the US Hemp Roundtable endorses this bill as we stand up and cheer for Sen. Wyden’s continued stewardship and leadership, and as we look forward to continuing to work closely with him as this bill progresses and transforms over the next several months.”

Hemp Supporters are encouraged to use our handy portal to send an email to their US Senators, urging them to co-sponsor the Cannabinoid Safety and Regulation Act. Together, we can ensure that hemp products are robustly regulated, not prohibited.
