Tell your Attorney General about hemp products
Unless Congress acts before Dec 11, most of the CBD products and low-dose hemp drinks you buy today will become controlled substances and banned by federal law. We are working to fix this, but our opponents have not stopped in their attempts to outlaw hemp.
New reporting from Politico reveals that a few major alcohol companies have been lobbying state attorneys general to push Congress toward hemp prohibition. According to emails reviewed by Politico, lobbyists working on behalf of companies including Anheuser-Busch, Molson Coors and Diageo urged state officials to support bans on hemp products that increasingly compete with their own intoxicating products.
Twice in the past two years, more than 30 attorneys general co-signed letters urging Congress to make hemp products illegal. A third letter may be circulating this fall, as our final battle for hemp regulations begins in Congress after election day. Your state attorney general hears from lobbyists constantly, but rarely from constituents like you. A letter from a constituent carries weight that no trade group can match, and this is your chance to make your voice heard.
Much of the alcohol industry is playing fair, urging Congress to regulate hemp akin to alcohol. Unfortunately, a few mega-companies, for nakedly competitive reasons, are making their shameless position known. Your attorney general deserves to hear from the people whose access to hemp products is at stake, too.
To make it easy, we have drafted a letter for you. When you enter your information, you’ll be directed to the appropriate letter for your state. The letter asks your attorney general to reject prohibition by supporting federal rules for hemp, including a 21+ age limit, child-safe packaging and lab testing. If you have the time, please add a sentence or two at the top about who you are and why hemp products matter to you.
