Victory in Michigan

At 6:40 this morning, during the very last hour of the legislative session for Michigan’s two-year cycle, two critical hemp bills passed both the House and Senate chambers: House Bill 6330 which dramatically expands Michigan’s hemp program, and House Bill 6331 which clarifies that popular products such as hemp-derived CBD should not be treated as controlled substances. The Governor now has 10 days to sign them into law.

As discussed more fully, this summer, a Michigan agency declared illegal the retail sale of hemp-derived CBD. With the Roundtable’s drafting input and hearing testimony, these bills were soon introduced. Hemp Supporters in Michigan then weighed in with more than 1000 emails sent to their legislators in support. And we proved again that when we raise our voice, we win. Big kudos to our lead local lobbyist, former State Rep. Frank Foster, and the whole team at Public Affairs Associates.

A HUGE debt of gratitude is owed to the Roundtable Members who chipped in extra, substantial dollars to fund the lobbying effort: American Shaman, Alliance One, Bluebird Botanicals, CV Sciences, CW Hemp, Elixinol, GenCanna, Healthy Hemp Oil, Isodiol, MHR Brands and Zilis. Thanks to them, this victory was possible.
