Red Alert in VA and New Bills in Four States

Virginia

For a third week in a row, we’re calling for urgent action in Virginia. SB 591 would outlaw most hemp extracts and would impose arbitrary, ultra-restrictive milligrams limits. The bill has now passed both chambers through a rushed process and lawmakers seem to be confused about exactly what the bill does and how bad it is for the legitimate hemp industry in Virginia. There’s one more opportunity to defeat the bill. We join our friends at the Virginia Hemp Coalition in encouraging Virginia Hemp Supporters to use our State Action Center TODAY to urge Governor Glenn Youngkin to veto SB 591.

Georgia

Bills in three states deserve your support. Georgia HB 1532 eliminates the prohibition against THC-infused food products and would allow a broad array of finished hemp products, including food. The bill makes clear that hemp products are not controlled substances due to containing cannabinoids, and substantially reduces license fees. Georgia Hemp Supporters are encouraged to use our State Action Center to urge lawmakers to support HB 1532.

Illinois

In Illinois, HR 0707 is a timely effort to create momentum for a key component of HR 6645, the Hemp Advancement Act. The Illinois resolution calls on Congress to repeal the drug felon ban in the 2018 Farm Bill. The controversial drug felon ban prevents most persons with a felony drug conviction from obtaining a hemp license. Illinois Hemp Supporters are encouraged to use our State Action Center to urge lawmakers to adopt the resolution.

Oklahoma

Oklahoma HB 3439 allows hemp licensees to remediate noncompliant hemp plants up to 1% delta-9 THC, which creates regulatory flexibility for farmers and ensures that crops do not have to be destroyed unnecessarily. Oklahoma Hemp Supporters are encouraged to use our State Action Center to urge lawmakers to support HB 3439.

Louisiana

But a new bill in Louisiana must be defeated. HB 758 is a tired effort to prohibit consumable hemp products in food or beverages. The bill would also set arbitrary total THC limits of 0.5 mg per serving and 15 mg per package. Louisiana Hemp Supporters are encouraged to use our State Action Center to urge lawmakers to oppose HB 758.
