SAFE Banking Steps Closer To Senate Vote — Take Action!

The U.S. Senate is taking further steps to ensure passage of The Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act

According to Politico, a markup for the bill is scheduled for September 27th. That means the committee would devote hours of its time working on the SAFE Banking language to send it to the Senate floor.

The Senate Banking Committee previously conducted a hearing on the SAFE Banking Act back in May. Following this, Chairman Sherrod Brown (D-OH) expressed his intention to advance the bill to the Senate floor for a vote within the next two to three weeks. However, it appears that the markup session was delayed due to last-minute adjustments aimed at refining the regulatory language, which were proposed by Senator Jack Reed (D-RI). Sen. Brown told Politico that taking the time to address issues could be better in the long run.

“We want to see the strongest vote, and if we had moved more quickly, we probably wouldn’t have,” said Brown. A strong vote, he explained, “helps us with momentum on the floor and in the House.”

The SAFE Banking Act has now been passed by the U.S. House in some form SEVEN times. Unfortunately, the bill continues to stall in the Senate.

This is our chance to help ensure its passage!
