S.1973: Urge Congress to Support the All-American Flag Act
On Flag Day 2023, S.1973: the All-American Flag Act, was introduced in Congress to protect our nation’s symbol of unity and heritage. Some of our nation’s first flags were made from hemp fabric, representing the prominent role of hemp textiles in American history.
The All-American Flag Act addresses the growing concerns surrounding the sourcing and manufacturing of American flags today. Led by Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Susan Collins (R-ME), Joe Manchin (D-WV), and Gary Peters (D-MI), this bipartisan effort aims to ensure that our national flags are proudly made in the United States, using materials sourced from our own country. By requiring the federal government to purchase flags made entirely of American-made materials, the All-American Flag Act will create opportunities for domestic hemp farmers, who play a vital role in providing sustainable and eco-friendly materials for flag manufacturing. Your support for the All-American Flag Act can directly impact the growth and success of the hemp industry while also ensuring the preservation of our national emblem.
“The U.S. Hemp Roundtable proudly supports the All American Flag Act of 2023 and commends Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) for leading the charge in preserving a cherished historical tradition while promoting sustainable, domestically sourced materials for our beloved national emblem,” said U.S. Hemp Roundtable General Counsel, Jonathan Miller. “Recognizing the historical significance of hemp in flag-making, reviving the use of American grown, produced, or manufactured hemp materials allows us to proudly fly U.S. flags that honor our heritage. This legislation strengthens our commitment to American manufacturing industries and fuels economic growth, paving the way for a brighter future for our nation.”
