Help Us to Block Efforts to Weaken Permanent Hemp Legalization in the Farm Bill

PASSED June 12, 2019

Thanks to the efforts of Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and a bi-partisan array of supporters, including Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), the Hemp Farming Act of 2018 -which would permanently legalize hemp — has been attached to the Senate version of the 2018 Farm Bill, which is expected to become law this year.

In recent days, Leader McConnell – empowered by tens of thousands of your emails and social media posts – blocked an amendment filed by Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) which might have classified popular products such as hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) as Schedule 1 controlled substances – akin to heroin. However, as the Farm Bill proceeds to the Senate floor – a vote is expected by July 4 –we need to remain vigilant against any future attempt to weaken its hemp protections.

On this page, we provide you with a simple portal to empower you to send email messages to your Senators.  While we have drafted some arguments for you, it would be even more effective for you to personalize the email by telling your representatives why hemp and hemp products are so important to you, your business, and/or your farm community.  Please keep in mind that our focus is on the farm economy and freedom of choice for consumers – please avoid any medical claims or advocacy for marijuana.
