Urge Lawmakers in West Virginia to Support Hemp!
West Virginia is in the process of approving rules that will regulate future hemp production and hemp products. Rules approved by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture (here and here) are expected to be taken up by a legislative rulemaking committee on December 18. Once the rules are passed out of committee, they must be approved through the standard legislative process and then signed into law. This process is expected to be completed during West Virginia’s 2020 legislative session.
The Roundtable has proposed several changes to the Department of Agriculture’s proposed rule on hemp products. One of these changes would correct labeling guidelines. Another would allow retailers to sell hemp-derived CBD simply by filing an annual registration, rather than being specially licensed. Only a handful of states require hemp retailers to obtain licenses, which is seen as unnecessary red tape. Likewise, the changes would avoid retailers having to annually register individual hemp products.
