PAST BILL
S.1251: Growing Climate Solutions Act (2021-2022)
PASSED May 11, 2022
The U.S. Hemp Roundtable proudly supported S.1251, the Growing Climate Solutions Act of 2021, to establish a certification program at USDA that would break down barriers for farmers interested in participating in carbon markets so they can be rewarded for climate-smart practices.
We joined more than 175 major corporations and organizations that endorsed it, including McDonald’s, American Farmland Trust, Microsoft, and the Center for Sustainable Climate Solutions. Not only does the bill demonstrate our commitment to sustainability, it also helps raise awareness that hemp can play a major role in solving the climate crisis. A key mission of the U.S. Hemp Roundtable is to promote sustainability in the industry, and to empower hemp farmers to participate in the fight against climate change.
The bill passed the U.S. Senate on June 24th in an overwhelming, bi-partisan vote, 92 to 8. Unfortunately, the bill was introduced and died in the U.S. House.
