This campaign was launched by the U.S. Hemp Roundtable to support passage of H.R.841 and S.1698, two bills that would regulate hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD). Neither of these bills passed and both were re-introduced in the 118th Congress (2023-2024). Learn more below.
H.R.841 – Hemp and Hemp-Derived CBD Consumer Protection and Market Stabilization Act of 2021
Introduced in the 117th Congress (2021-2022) by former Rep. Kurt Shrader (D-OR) would regulate hemp-derived CBD as a dietary supplement. It gained 45 cosponsors and was re-introduced in the 118th Congress (2023-2024) by the bill’s lead Republican co-sponsor, Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA), as H.R.1629, The Hemp and Hemp-Derived CBD Consumer Protection and Market Stabilization Act of 2023.
S.1698 – Hemp Access and Consumer Safety Act
Introduced in the 117th Congress (2021-2022) by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) would regulate hemp-derived CBD as a dietary supplement and food and beverage additive.
